Instrument Placement Sessions To Be Held
KINGSPORT – Kingsport City Schools will hold two band and orchestra instrument placement sessions for all current fifth graders interested in participating in the Ross N. Robinson and John Sevier Middle School programs next school year.
 
The Ross N. Robinson Middle School Band and Orchestra Instrument Placement Session will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2010 from 9 a.m. to noon at Robinson Middle School.  All Robinson-bound fifth graders interested in being members of the 2010-11 Robinson sixth grade band or orchestra will have the opportunity to try instruments in the string, woodwind, brass, and percussion families.  Several directors and private instructors will be at the placement session to assess the student’s compatibility with each instrument, finding the instrument with which each student will achieve success rapidly.  All those interested in the band and orchestra programs are encouraged to attend. For more information, contact Kim Hutchison, Band Director at 378-2200.
 
The John Sevier Middle School Band and Orchestra Instrument Placement Session will be held on Saturday, March 20, from 9 a.m. to noon, at John Sevier Middle School. All Sevier-bound fifth graders interested in being members of the 2010-11 John Sevier sixth grade band or orchestra should attend. This meeting is the entry-point for band and orchestra in grades 6-12 in the Kingsport City Schools. Students will be served in the order of arrival, with numbers issued beginning at 8 a.m.   Refreshments will be available for parents while they wait on their children to be selected for instruments. For more information contact Hunter Mullins, Band Director, 378-2450.
 
KCS Kindergarten Registration, Pre-K Screening To Be Held
KINGSPORTKingsport City Schools will hold kindergarten registration and pre-kindergarten screening for the 2010-11 school year on Tuesday, April 27 at multiple locations.
 
Kingsport residents with children five years of age on or before September 30, 2010, must register for kindergarten at a Kingsport City Elementary School on Tuesday, April 27 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Parents and children must register at the school zoned for their residence. Parents must bring an original birth certificate with seal, up-to-date immunization record (TN green form) with confirmation of medical examination, child’s social security card and proof of residency (mortgage statement, rental receipt, property tax receipt or most recent water/electric/gas bill). Children will not be allowed to attend school without providing the documentation listed above. Kingsport City Schools will conduct pre-kindergarten screenings on Tuesday, April 27, from 8:30 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Kingsport Civic Auditorium. The screening is for children who are Kingsport city residents and who will be 3 or 4 years old by Sept. 30, 2010. Children must be present for the screening. Parents or legal guardians must bring their child’s original birth certificate with seal, child’s social security card, up-to-date physical and immunization records (TN form), proof of residency, and proof of family income. Kingsport City Schools Accepting Zoning & Tuition Applications
Kingsport City Schools will be accepting zoning and tuition applications for students in grades K-12 beginning February 8 through April 30.
 
Parents who would like to request their child attend a different city school outside the school zone their student is expected to attend must apply for a zoning exception. Parents of students who are not legal residents of the city of Kingsport must submit a tuition application to attend a Kingsport City school. Parents or legal guardians must apply annually for their child’s tuition and zoning status, even if they attended a Kingsport City School in 2009-2010.
